Design for expression and imagination
I love to create interactive experiences that allow people to express themselves and to use their imagination. Digital technology offers many possibilities for this. Storytelling plays an important role here, and is a recurring element in my work. During the last year of my Bachelor I developed animation software for elementary school kids, and an interactive toy-environment for interacting with audio games and stories.
Even more exciting things can happen on the border between the virtual and the physical. This works two ways: The physical world can be enriched, and people can use their bodily skills to interact with the virtual in a natural way, rather than using limiting traditional computer input devices. During my Master I worked for example on an interactive visual dance installation, a physical drawing/storytelling environment for kids, and a portable device for playing audio adventure games.
I have just started a PhD project in which I design new ways of representing and handling digital collections. People gather more and more digital content, a big web of possible interconnected narratives. Which tools are needed, on a software and a hardware level, for interacting with this web for different purposes and in different contexts? |
